Parish: We need our A game at Wigan

Matt Parish has told his Salford players to forget about Wigan and concentrate on their own game at the DW Stadium on Sunday.

The City Reds coach believes they have to bring their “A game” to have any chance against the Super League leaders and Challenge Cup finalists.

“It will be a massive test for us,” he said. “I watched them at the Challenge Cup last week and they were very tradesman-like . . . very Melbourne-like.

“That’s not surprising with Michael Maguire as coach and four Melbourne guys in there.

“But we’ve concentrated on ourselves a lot and have set some standards at training.

“We are trying to be consistent and improve our performance week by week on the field. I’ve only been here a few weeks and although we have been beaten I think our performances are a bit better.

“We’ve got to turn up with our A grade game and if we can do that we will compete. But we can’t afford having one or two guys not bringing their A grade game.

“They’ve got strike power right across the park and are very well drilled. They don’t make many mistakes and they can lift the tempo of the game.

“They have an excellent kicking game and Brett Finch gets the ball around the park really well and Sam Tomkins is a fantastic player.

“We are up for the challenge and the boys are looking forward to it.”

One Response to Parish: We need our A game at Wigan

I will be at the game but to be very blunt the Reds are not even on the same planet at this time.

Hopefully we will be able to make a game of it what with the Warriors having one eye on the final in a few weeks time.
