Ambitious Swinton have signed giant Leigh prop David Mills.

The 6ft 5ins and 18st Welsh international has played in Super League for Widnes, Harlequins and Hull KR and is another massive signing for the Lions as they prepare for life in the Championship.

“He has a big physical presence and good go-forward,” said Swinton coach Steve McCormack.

“It goes without saying that he’ll add a lot of power to our forwards. Even last year we weren’t the biggest but David Mills fits the bill and is a great signing.

“Leigh wanted him back and quite a few other clubs have been chasing him.”

Mills, 30, is the son of Widnes legend Jim Mills and was in the Wales train-on squad for the current Four Nations series against England, Australia and New Zealand but didn’t make the 24-man squad.

It’s another bold move from Swinton after the capture of Tom Armstrong from St Helens.

McCormack added: “David thinks we are a progressive club and one that has big ambitions and that’s why he wanted to join us..

“The squad that got us promoted is probably strong enough to compete in the Championship but people like David Mills will add to the quality of the side and make us into a team that is even harder to beat.”

The Swinton squad currently looks like this: Ian Mort, Karl Ashall, Martin Ainscough, Chaz I’Anson, Mark Smith, Alex Hurst, Gavin Dodd, Dale Cunniffe, Mike Morrison, Lee Wingfield, Neil Holland, Richie Hawkyard, Darren Hawkyard, Sam Reay, Ian Watson, Andy Gorski, Danny Meekin, Tom Armstrong, Rob Foxen, Adam Higson, David Mills
